BU ResLife Union

Overview

BU is required to bargain with us for a contract that will apply to all ResLife workers. ResLife workers had our first bargaining session on Dec 15, 2023, after BU delayed on scheduling for months. We presented all 28 of our proposals in that session and invited BU to make us meaningful counters. To date, both parties have reached agreements on four of those proposals. Since then, we have had six bargaining sessions. During bargaining, multiple ResLife workers have bravely shared testimonies about how our current lack of proper protections hurt us and our ability to do our job.

Importantly, BU has repeatedly dismissed our major proposals, and doubled down on status quo conditions in almost all aspects. They have rejected our proposals to provide free health insurance for those not on family plans, access to free and optional training in lifesaving care, stronger public health and COVID safeguards, and clearer and fairer processes around correction actions/discharge. They have pushed back on removing the 2.7 GPA requirement, which is not a rule for other on-campus jobs. BU offered us a minimal compensation package that equates to about $8/day and ignores the parity and training pay components of our initial proposal.
